11 Simple Ways I Maintain My Canon EOS 1500D Camera

For me, my Canon EOS 1500D is a prized possession, so I make sure it is well maintained. There are a few simple things that I always keep in mind to take care of my camera.

1. I Keep It in a Safe Place

It needs no mention how delicate this gadget is and how much care it deserves. I make sure it is stored at the right temperature and kept out of reach of my baby. When I’m not using it, it is either covered or safely placed inside its camera bag.

2. I Make Sure It Is Charged

I always keep the battery charged so that whenever I need to take the camera with me, I can simply pick it up and leave. However, I don’t leave it on the charger any longer than necessary. As soon as I see the green light on the battery charger, I remove the battery, put it back into the camera, and close the battery compartment.

3. I Clean It Regularly

I make sure the lens is clean, even if I don’t clean it very often. Whenever I do, I never use any liquid cleaner. Instead, I use a soft, dry cloth, such as a flannel cloth. This helps avoid damaging the glass or leaving damp marks on the lens.

4. I Keep It on a Stable Surface Instead of Hanging It

This might sound like I’m being overly cautious, but for some reason I’m always nervous about hanging my camera. Instead, I prefer keeping it on a flat, stable surface whenever possible so there is less chance of it accidentally falling.

5. I Always Use the Lens Cap

Whenever I’m not taking photos, I keep the lens cap on. It protects the lens from dust, fingerprints, and accidental scratches.

6. I Carry It Carefully While Travelling

Whenever I travel, I keep the camera inside a padded camera bag instead of throwing it into a regular backpack. This protects it from bumps and knocks.

7. I Handle It With Clean Hands

I try to handle my camera with clean, dry hands. It helps keep the body and controls clean and prevents unnecessary smudges.

8. I Remove Dust Before It Builds Up

If I notice dust on the camera body or around the lens mount, I gently wipe it away instead of letting it accumulate.

9. I Don’t Leave It in Direct Sunlight

I avoid leaving my camera inside a parked car or under direct sunlight for long periods, especially during summer, as excessive heat isn’t good for the camera or the battery.

10. I Store the Battery Properly

If I know I won’t be using the camera for a long time, I remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place.

11. I Use the Camera Regularly

Even when I don’t have a photography trip planned, I take the camera out once in a while and click a few pictures. It keeps the battery in use and reminds me to enjoy photography more often.

I especially like using the lens cap and not leaving the camera in direct sunlight because they’re simple habits that many photographers overlook.
