The Most Photography-Worthy Places in India

As a photographer, there are certain places that make you want to return again and again. No matter how many photographs you take, it never feels like enough. Every visit offers a different light, a different mood, and a new story waiting to be captured. Here are a few of those places that I have been fortunate enough to visit and would happily travel back to anytime—of course, with my camera by my side.

1. Kerala – Alappuzha Backwaters, Athirappilly Waterfalls and Munnar

Kerala, which is naturally a great choice for foreign tourists around the world, is breathtaking, and I’m proud to be from this place. The greenery, the fresh air, and the welcoming people just make these places worthy of photography. The beauty of Kerala is natural, and there is very little man-made beauty that can match it.

2. Nainital, Uttarakhand

If anyone were to ask me for a romantic destination, any day I would suggest Nainital. This place is so serene and beautiful. You feel so relaxed and come back refreshed. The lake and the gardens are all heartwarming.

3. Rajasthan

I love observing different cultures, and according to me, Rajasthan has a very vibrant culture that is highly expressive. Be it their attire, their customs, or their lifestyle, they are so colorful and bright. The Pink City and Jaipur Palace are truly photography-worthy places.

4. Mumbai

I love Mumbai for its urban culture. The busiest and most crowded city in India is always bustling with activity. Even the nights are awake in Mumbai. A month back, I had been to Mumbai, and the skyscrapers and the Worli Sea Link are simply amazing examples of human-built architecture.

5. West Bengal

This is one state I haven’t visited yet, but it is on my bucket list. Kolkata is known for being a paradise for street photography. The city is full of character. Its colonial architecture, yellow taxis, bustling markets, and everyday life provide endless opportunities for storytelling through photography.

My favorite photographs are often candid shots, and I believe Kolkata would be a wonderful place to capture human interactions and everyday moments.

6. Taj Mahal, Agra

No list of photography locations in India would be complete without the Taj Mahal. The changing light throughout the day transforms this iconic monument into an entirely different subject every few hours. Sunrise is particularly magical, with softer crowds and beautiful golden tones.

If you visit, try arriving before sunrise and experiment with reflections from the water channels leading to the monument.

Conclusion

India offers incredible diversity for photographers. From the natural beauty of Kerala and Nainital to the vibrant culture of Rajasthan, the urban charm of Mumbai, and the timeless elegance of the Taj Mahal, every destination has something unique to offer. While West Bengal still remains on my bucket list, these are some of the places that have inspired me as a photographer and that I would love to visit again with my camera.
